no rest for the wicked
yesterday left me little time to rest and recover, and a late night night hockey game did not help. but, it was fun and i really enjoy shooting hockey. it is very fast paced and you have to keep your eyes on the prize, or in this case the puck, at all times in the tiny viewfinder. it was the final game of the season - the all star game - which made it even more fun.
shooting in a new rink with so many different colored jerseys was throwing me for a loop exposure wise, but despite the sleep deprivation i did what could to think on my feet and adjust on the fly.

turbulence
after a long night of less than peaceful travel i am bleary eyed and weary, but i am home. all i can say is thank you.
i am thankful for quality time with family.
i am thankful i can up and take off for 10 days at a moment's notice.
i am thankful to be home with the one i love.

honolulu fixies
though cycling is huge in hawaii, until today i had never seen a single fixed gear. turns out there are only about 25 or so people on the island (oahu) who ride fixies, making it a small community of riders where everyone knows each other.

i arrived in hawaii this afternoon for a bit of a last minute trip. my father's 50th birthday is coming up, so i flew out to surprise him. i will be here 10 days, LOTS of photos to come...

behind the scenes
as i mentioned in a previous post i just started working on a new project (Lush Life), a website about whats hot in austin - music, food, events, and so much more. we spent nearly all day yesterday working our way up and down south congress shooting at various locations for the trailer. the site will be launched during SXSW, so i will have a lot more information soon.

my happy place
very recently life handed me perhaps one of the greatest gifts i have ever received, time. i recently re-negotiated my work status and drastically reduced my hours, leaving me free to work from wherever i want, whenever i want. although i am busy on multiple projects (a whats hot in austin website, an internet radio station and a photo zine) i still find myself with plenty of free time. i have haunted just about every coffee shop in town, but my favorite spot is the capitol. the state legislature is out until next year so i have the senate gallery (or house of reps, depending on my mood) all to myself - and they have wi-fi! it is quiet, beautiful, and empty!
ask me about the stephen f. austin painting in the senate's chambers, thanks to the tour guides i know all about it.

lush life and SFA
i just started shooting for an exciting new project called lush life. stay tuned for a lot more information on the project, as we will be making our big debut for SXSW. we did however do a first run last night with a video interview with the front man of the super furry animals followed up by a few shots from the sold out show!
on the technical side of things, emos has to be one of the hardest places in town to shoot. they use these static and very harsh red gels on their lights - i was shooting wide open (2.8) at 1600 iso. it is sort of an unwritten rule that you don't use flash at live shows, which didn't help my situation much. i converted the live shots to black and white, since colors display as tones the red actually works well in black and white.
