God bless thor

this morning, we had to put one of the most special animals that has ever came into my life to sleep. i am eternally grateful to have known such a wonderful animal and to have been with him at his passing.

thor was a VERY special dog, he was blind and suffered from a rare form of dwarfism. be thankful for the animals (and people for that matter) in your life. if you have an animal with special needs, here is some information that may help you.

thank you, thank you, thank you thor!

pedal power

about six months ago i made a pretty radical decision, i got rid of my car. my life circumstances are such that i found myself using it barely once a week - i live in the west campus area with eveyrthing i need within walking distance. for the most part i telecommute from my favorite coffe shops - but when i do need to go into the office it is hardly a mile from my home. my car was just sitting there, wasting space.

making the transition to being a full time cycle commuter was more of a personal challenge than anything else. although it would be nice to say i did it for ecological or economic reasons - that wasn't the case. i just wanted to prove i could do it. other than the urge for the occasional road trip, i have yet to miss owning a car. it is nice to wake up every morning and think to myself - "well what type of mood am i in, is it a fixed gear or freewheel type of day?" :)

brand new

once again i have overhauled my personal site, ryanchahanovich.com. the format change is designed to highlight my professional history as well as showcasing my photo portfolio.

the gallery space is still up, remember for every two prints purchased a child in a developing country gets one revolutionary laptop.

banker to the poor

on sunday the nobel peace prize winning economist, muhammed yunus, came to book people to discuss his newest book and the successes of his micro-lending program.

muhammed's speach was very inspiring and to me illustrates that one person really can make a tremendous difference in this world.

just as the great george costanza did before us during the summer of george - we made the most of a sunny 'winter' day and played 18 holes of frisbee golf.

fun for all!

my specialty lies mostly in photographing musicians. be it live, for promo, candid or in the studio i try to make the artist appear mythic and timeless, all the while trying to stay true to emotion and heart they have put into their recordings or performance.

i am thankful to be blessed enough with a day job that allows me to be in contact with the world's greatest musicians day in and day out (esession.com). i have gone on tour with major acts, been in the studio with great artists, and been privvy to some incredible private performances from some of my musical heroes, and had some memorable backstage moments - THANK YOU!

here are a few shots that i took for meowpoww productions at the fun fun fun fest a few months back.

of things to come

i hope the new year is treating you well. mine is off to a great start, although i miss my family and can't wait for my magera moon to get home!

well, my film shots from hawaii have been processed and scanned and i am very happy with many of the images. i do have something new in the works for my other site, ryanchahanovich.com - which for now showcases some of my film work, photo stories and a selection of digital images. i will use that site to convey my film work in a more personal way that requires time and attention - much like viewing a fine image in a physical gallery space, leaving this site to cater a more ephemeral photo experience.

with that, a preview of things to come...
